Despacito was a track from the year 2017 made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top popular streamed song worldwide within just the space of six months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music not only brought attention back to the genre, but as well to Latin music generally. In 2015 there were two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. But during the peak of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 mainly Spanish songs that were included in the top 100. Then in 2020 the number was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Soon, other artistes collaborated with Reggaeton's biggest stars including Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019 Some reggaeton artists expressed their displeasure at the rise of mainstream music in the year 2020. But a new band, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the evolution and development of reggaeton. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music as well as other forms.
